Alberta Lamb Traceability Pilot Project

The Alberta Lamb Traceability Pilot Project is evaluating electronic technology systems to find the costs and benefits of implementing this new technology. The goal is to identify systems that meet the needs of industry and government for traceability as well as offer opportunities to improve profitability across the lamb supply chain.

Project objectives

  • To develop a broad industry understanding of the benefits and limitations of electronic equipment and systems.
  • To meet the requirements of food supply chain traceability internationally, nationally and provincially.
  • To develop electronic options to enable compliance with traceability requirements of: premises identification, animal identification, and animal/product movement
  • To encourage the use of new technology across the lamb supply chain.

SheepCentral

We invite you to visit SheepCentral to gain more information on the both the Alberta and national pilot projects and also learn more about traceability technology. SheepCentral was developed as a data storage repository and information exchange site for the Alberta traceability pilot project. As information and experience accumulates, the website has become a resource on electronic technology, traceability and animal identification systems.

The MeatCentral Database provides a central location for the supply chain to share their information.

SheepCentral is still in development, your comments and suggestions are very welcome.
