- The Government of Canada welcomes report from Industry Strategy Council
On December 11th, the Honourable Navdeep Bains, Minister of Innovation, Science and Industry, released a report from the Industry Strategy Council. Entitled Restart, Recover and Reimagine Prosperity for all Canadians, An ambitious growth plan for building a digital, sustainable and innovative economy, the report shares the Council’s perspectives on the recovery of Canada’s key economic sectors, including agriculture and agri-food.
The government will be carefully reviewing the insights of the Industry Strategy Council as we continue to support Canadians through the pandemic and lay the foundation for Canada’s economic recovery and resilience.

- Canada’s COVID-19 Immunization Plan
On December 8, 2020, the Public Health Agency of Canada released Canada’s COVID-19 Immunization Plan: Saving Lives and Livelihoods. The document outlines Canada’s immunization plan and proposes the steps towards a safe, effective and informed roll-out. The plan involves the collaboration of federal, provincial and territorial governments, Indigenous leaders, and partners in Canada and around the world to meet this challenge through a principled and evidence-informed approach that puts protecting the health and safety of Canadians first.
- Canada Emergency Business Account loans
Last week the Government announced that starting on December 4, 2020, eligible businesses facing financial hardship as a result of COVID-19 are able to access a second Canada Emergency Business Account (CEBA) loan of up to $20,000 – on top of the initial $40,000 that was available to small businesses.
To apply, eligible businesses and not-for-profits need to contact the financial institution that provided their initial CEBA loan and provide the appropriate information and documentation. Note that the additional $20,000 CEBA loan may not be available at all participating financial institutions on December 4, but is expected to be available soon.
CEBA is administered by Export Development Canada (EDC), which is working closely with Canadian financial institutions to deliver the loans to their existing business banking customers. The CEBA Call Centre can be reached at 1-888-324-4201 between Monday and Friday from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. ET.
